SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Senior Structural Engineer position performs and directs a variety of structural engineering duties including inspection, assessment, evaluation, analysis, design, and technical document preparation. To fulfill these obligations, Senior Structural Engineers must be able to manage and conduct assigned structural engineering work in compliance with applicable engineering codes, procedures, practices, and standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs and mentors engineering staff, client relations, and project management.
  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, performing, coordinating, and overseeing structural engineering work in accordance with applicable engineering codes, policies, procedures, standards, and safety.
  • Responsible for ensuring structural engineering activities are executed correctly, professionally, and in a timely and safe manner for projects of varying size and complexity from inception to completion.
  • Responsible for communication and coordination between other engineering disciplines and project participants.
  • Directs and/or performs field inspection and evaluation of structures in compliance with established procedures and standards.
  • Directs and/or performs testing of materials, interprets test results, and incorporates results into reports to ensure project specification compliance.
  • Directs and/or performs complex engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.
  • Directs and/or prepares comprehensive engineering documents including inspection reports, design plans, and specifications. 
  • Actively participates in internal and external project meetings and works to actively resolve project issues.

YOU WILL NEED

  • Strong technical knowledge, experience, and capabilities in structural engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in computer assisted engineering and office software and equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in the English language.
  • High level ability to define problems, collect/interpret data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • High level leadership and organizational skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in civil, structural, or ocean engineering from an accredited four-year university.
  • 15+ years of relevant engineering experience.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Valid US Driver’s License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORK ENVIRONMENT & SAFETY

The duties of this position require the employee to regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. This position may require the employee to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While in the field, the employee may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, and stand up to eight hours or more at a time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the required duties of this position.

This position requires maintaining current industry knowledge and expertise through active involvement in professional organizations and/or other activities that may require additional and/or flexible working hours. The ability and availability to readily work overtime and perform duties outside of normal working hours may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Travel inside and outside of the continental U.S. may be required.

For candidates in New York the salary range is between $120,000-$185,000
