Human Resources Intern

SUMMARY

Human Resources Intern duties include but are not limited to assisting with various human resources tasks and assignments such as recruitment, hiring, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and human resources administration and record keeping. Work is performed under the direction of the Human Resources Manager who makes assignments, provides guidance, and reviews work to ensure that it is completed according to instructions and in accordance with accepted policies, procedures, and practices.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruitment & Hiring

  • Assist with the preparation of recruiting presentations and job descriptions and help with job posting coordination.
  • Assist with tracking and documenting applicants, reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and performing reference and background checks.
  • Assist with the review of new hire paperwork.
     

Employee Relations

  • Assist with the communication of human resources policies, programs, practices, and laws and regulations.


Performance Management 

  • Assist with employee development, key performance indicators, and performance evaluation.
  • Assist with employee engagement.


Benefits Administration

  • Assist with operation of group benefit programs (health, dental, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance and retirement plans, etc.).
  • Assist with the coordination of employee benefits processing including   enrollments, changes, terminations, beneficiaries, disability cases/claims, rollovers, distributions loans, and compliance.


HR Administration and Recordkeeping

  • Assist with the preparation, maintenance, and update of hiring,   employment eligibility, promotion, transfer, termination, and other employment  or benefit records.
  • Assist with the maintenance and update of the Employee Handbook.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Enrollment in a bachelor's degree or master’s degree program in business administration or other related field with a focus on human resources from an accredited four-year university.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic knowledge of state and federal human resources laws, policies and procedures, best practices, and their application in the day-to-day working environment.
  • High-level proficiency in computer assisted office software and equipment.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) in the English language.
  • Good attention to detail, problem-solving, and organization skills.
